Release notes

What changes in Shale, dated.

What's added and what's fixed, dated. Fixed defects are written up with the same care as new features.

SEPT 10

2026

Invoicing, and a first launch that sets up the app

  • Added — Finance issues invoices, quotes and credit notes, and tracks what has actually been paid.
  • Added — on first launch, three questions — hours, working days, constraints — set up the calendar and its free slots.
  • A starter example shows the modules linked together; it deletes in one click.

SEPT 7

2026

Mind maps

  • Added — a mind map block in Notes and Knowledge, usable with the mouse or the keyboard.
  • A node can cite a note, a task or a goal: the link shows on both sides.
  • In Knowledge, topics and tracked cards become a single thing: the subject.

SEPT 5

2026

A minute-precise calendar

  • Added — minute-precise entry, multi-day events, repeats.
  • Fixed — a note's content could show up in the next one when switching quickly. No note was lost.

SEPT 2

2026

Calendar and links

  • Added — Calendar module: appointments, dated tasks, habits and goal deadlines in one place, with overloaded days flagged and free slots suggested.
  • Added — @ mentions link a note to a task, a goal or a card, with a list of everything that cites it.

AUG 31

2026

The subscription unlocks

  • Shale is on sale: seven-day trial, first charge on day 8, cancel in one click from your account.

AUG 25

2026

Finance

  • Added — Finance module: cash, net worth and how many months you last if income stops. Manual entry, no bank connection.

AUG 10

2026

Encrypted sync

  • The copy sent to the cloud is encrypted on the machine, with a key derived from the password: the server stores it without being able to read it.
  • The trade-off, stated upfront: if you forget your password, this copy can't be recovered. The data on your Mac stays intact.
