“I'm on Windows.”
Not yet. Shale runs on macOS Apple Silicon only today; the Windows port is on the roadmap. Leave your address and you'll hear the day it ships.
“Another subscription — what if I stop?”
Your data lives on your Mac, readable by you, and exports whenever you want. On cancellation, the app goes read-only: you don't lose your work, you lose editing.
“One developer on their own — what about in two years?”
Shale is written by one person, as a registered sole proprietorship, with updates released week after week. The data format is open and exportable: if development stops, your file stays readable. The release notes say what changes in each release, fixes included.
“I already have everything in Notion.”
Notion is an excellent shared workspace. Shale is something else: an app installed on the machine rather than a tab, designed for one person rather than a team, and it tells you what to do when it opens instead of waiting for you to build the system.
“Why pay when there are free tools?”
Free tools leave you assembling five apps and maintaining the assembly. You spend that time every week. Shale costs the price of a lunch a month and removes the assembly. One hour a week won back is six working days a year: that's the only calculation that matters.
“What if I lose my password?”
The truth: your local data stays intact on your Mac, but the encrypted copy in the cloud can't be recovered — that's the price of encryption the server can't read. You start again from the local file and connect a new account.
